1 dead, 4 missing as boat sinks off Marinduque amid Jolina

One person was reported dead while four others went missing after their fishing boat sank near the Elephant Island area on their way home to Marinduque on Wednesday, according to the police.

Based on the report of the Buenavista Municipal Police Station, the town government has recorded a casualty identified as 21-year-old Jovert Manalo Garay, who died due to drowning and head injury.

The missing persons were identified as Bobby Villavicencio, Bernie Villavicencio, Hermis Villavicencio, and Mario Mendito.

Investigation showed that the victims onboard FB Green Horse set sail to catch fish in the Palawan area Aug on 28.

After loading their catched fish in Lucena City, they tried to head home to Buenavista amid the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Jolina on Wednesday.

Their fishing boat sank near Elephant Island due to strong winds and heavy waves, the police said. -NB, GMA News
