OFW from Canada tests positive for COVID-19 despite getting vaccinated

A returning overseas Filipino worker (OFW) has tested positive for  COVID-19 in Cebu despite getting inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine, according to a report by Super Radyo Cebu's John Kim Bote on Dobol B sa News TV on Friday.

Citing Dr. Mary Jean Loreche of Department of Health Central Visayas, the report said the patient is a female, aged 25 years, who arrived from Canada.

Loreche said the patient received Pfizer vaccine on January 13 and arrived in Cebu on February 9 where she underwent quarantine protocols. She was swabbed on February 14.

It was the second case of an OFW testing positive for COVID-19 despite getting vaccinated abroad, the first one being an OFW from the United Arab Emirates who returned home on January 25.

Loreche had earlier said it remains to be proven if COVID-19 vaccines can prevent transmission.

“Sa mga datos ng mga bakuna natin… it can prevent severe disease, it can prevent clinical disease. Pero to prevent transmission, hindi po clear cut ‘yan kaya hindi po natin masasabi na ikaw, kung nabakunahan ka, hindi ka na makakahawa,” she said on Dobol B sa News TV on Thursday. —KBK, GMA News
