DFA: Almost 5,500 Pinoys abroad afflicted by COVID-19

The number of Filipinos abroad who have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) almost reached 5,500 as 21 new infections were reported, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Friday.

According to the DFA, the total number of infections now stands at 5,490. The number of recoveries, meanwhile, rose to 2,369 after three more patients recovered from the virus while the death toll rose to 395 with five new fatalities.

Patients undergoing treatment, meanwhile, increased to 2,726.

Data from the DFA showed a total of 551 infections in the Asia Pacific region. No new cases were reported with recoveries remaining at 442, fatalities at two, and patients undergoing treatment at 107.

A total of 3,398 individuals in the Middle East or Africa have been infected of whom 1,379 have recovered with three more cases while four more deaths brought the death toll in the region to 146.

Patients undergoing treatment there rose to 1,873.

Meanwhile, total recoveries and fatalities in Europe remained at 299 and 91, respectively, while patients undergoing treatment rose to 481, bringing the total number of infections to 871.

In the Americas, fatalities rose to 156 with one new death while recoveries and patients undergoing treatment remained at 249 and 265, respectively. There are a total of 670 infections in the region. — RSJ, GMA News
