COVID-19 cases among Pinoys abroad now at 10,162 —DFA

The number of Filipinos overseas who contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) rose to 10,162 on Thursday after the Department of Health reported 11 new infections.

Thirty-one more patients, meanwhile, recovered from the virus, bringing the total recoveries abroad to 6,413, while patients undergoing treatment were recorded at 2,981.

The DFA also said the death toll increased to 768 with five new fatalities.

The Middle East/Africa remained to be the region with the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad at 7,002 with 487 deaths and 4,205 recoveries.

The Asia Pacific Region followed with 1,189 infections, including eight fatalities and 881 recoveries.

In Europe, 1,168 Filipinos were infected with the virus. Of the number, 95 have died, while 869 have recovered.

The Americas, meanwhile, has reported 803 cases with 178 fatalities and 458 recoveries.

“As DFA personnel in our Foreign Service Posts continue to report on the status of Filipinos abroad, the DFA assures the public its unceasing efforts in attending to the needs of our people and facilitating requests for repatriation, whenever possible,” the department said.—Ma.
