By LUCKY MAE F. QUILAO

Filipinos in France have expressed willingness to follow government’s orders for either a third lockdown or border closure for non-European countries.

Medical experts in France have called for a third lockdown, but President Emmanuel Macron has decided to close the country’s borders

to all but essential travel to and from countries outside the European Union.

“Ready po kami ng asawa ko na sumunod sa rules and regulations ng government ng France,” said Angela Castillo Etherton, a 38-year-old auto entrepreneur.

“At this moment, hindi namin alam if ano ang decision ng government ng France about sa next lockdown. I am a foreign resident in France that’s why we follow the rules,” she added in an interview via Messenger on February 2.

Even Jacob Tundagui, a 41-year-old employee familial for 17 years, would comply.

“If that’s the only way to control this virus then so be it. We’ve been into stricter health measures so I’m more than ready. It’s going to be tough but we rely on the health ministry and government for such measures since they have all the data to get to that decision. But if we can avoid a lockdown, then better,” he said in an interview via Messenger on February 3.

Katherine Sarabia, though not ready, would also “respect and understand the government’s decision.”

“Honestly speaking, I am not ready especially if it would be a total lockdown same as the first one. Means we can't work. And I am not like others who have a chômage that even though they are not working, they are paid 80% by the government,” the 36-year-old gardé de enfants admitted in an interview via Messenger on February 2.

“But since last week, I started to buy stock of food just in case there would be an announcement of lockdown. I respect and understand the government’s decision as I also find it necessary as the cases every 24 h is very high.”

As of February 4, France has 3.25 million COVID-19 cases; 228,472 recoveries; and 77,595 deaths.  —LBG, GMA News
