4 more Filipinos abroad sickened with COVID-19; total cases at 16,398 — DFA

Four more Filipinos overseas contracted the ailment caused by SARS-CoV-2, bringing the total count among Filipinos living abroad to 16,398, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs  (DFA) on Thursday.

Based on DFA data, 5,301 out of the total number of infected Filipinos are active cases.

However, the DFA said no new fatalities and recoveries were reported, bringing the total recoveries and deaths to 10,048 and 1,049, respectively.

Thirty five countries in the Middle East and Africa continued to record the highest number of sickened Filipinos, with 9,078 total COVID-19 cases. Of the total, 3,440 are active, 4,963 recovered from the illness and 675 died of the disease.

This was followed by 21 countries in Europe which recorded a total of 3,275 virus infections, including 2,255 recoveries, 130 deaths and 890 active cases.

Meanwhile, 23 nations in the Asia Pacific Region reported 3,144 COVID-19 cases with 2,240 recoveries, 21 deaths and 883 active cases.

Eleven 11 countries in the Americas reported 901 cases which include 223 deaths, 88 active cases and 590 recoveries. — Consuelo Marquez/RSJ, GMA News
