Magnitude 5.7 earthquake hits Davao Oriental

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Davao Oriental on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The quake which occurred at 8 a.m. had its epicenter at 5.33°N, 127.45°E - 211 km S 46° E of the municipality of Governor Generoso.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 44 km.

No damage and aftershocks are expected, PHIVOLCS said.

Monday morning's earthquake was first reported at magnitude 5.6, but PHIVOLCS updated this before 9 a.m.

On Sunday, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.

At least five people in Cotabato were reported hurt, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday. —KG, GMA News
