Social media platform Lyka assured that the glitch with its application had been fixed and resolved, and they were now working closely with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) to ensure compliance with relevant privacy laws in the country.

Lyka said application issues on the IOS 14 BETA were fixed and resolved on the last update five months ago, and they had been in communication with the privacy watchdog to address concerns.

"Our users' privacy is our utmost priority. Lyka will never put the security of user information at risk, and all data and information are kept strictly confidential," it said in an emailed statement.

"Lyka also regrets certain reports claiming that user accounts cannot be deleted. On the contrary, this can be done by accessing the customer service called ARIA within the app. Lyka is monitoring the circulation of this misinformation and is presently studying its legal options," it elaborated.

The statement comes after nonprofit information and communications technology (ICT) organization Computer Professional's Union (CPU) warned against using Lyka, citing privacy and security issues hounding the mobile application such as the supposed difficulty in deleting accounts.

According to its profile on the Apple and Google Play stores, Lyka describes itself as a "free social media platform that allows users to connect, discover new things, and share their interests with other individuals. The platform allows people to share photos. It revolves around a digital point system - which rewards users for engagement on the platform."

The Lyka Gems can then be shared among friends, exchanged for goods with partner stores, and collected to redeem gifts in its Lyka Mall which covers gift certificates, gadgets, and hotel accommodations among others. — DVM, GMA News
