TD Ambo may intensify into tropical storm before landfall on Thursday -PAGASA

Tropical Depression Ambo may intensify into a Tropical Storm before its expected landfall on Thursday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Monday.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, PAGASA senior weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said Ambo is expected to make landfall in Bicol Region and move through Central Luzon.

“Maaaring lumakas ito bago mag-landfall. Maaring maging Tropical Storm bago mag-landfall sa bansa,” Aurelio said.

“Kapag hindi po nagbago ang track nito, maari pong tumbukin ang Bicol Region,” he added.

As of Monday morning's forecast, Ambo was seen not to directly affect the weather in the country. However, its trough may bring cloudy skies, rains, and thunderstorms in Mindanao areas.

PAGASA said in its early morning update that Ambo's center was located at 3 a.m. at 385 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph, moving northwestward at 10 kph. -- Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
