Ambo maintains strength, moves northwest to Surigao City

Tropical Depression Ambo maintained its strength as it continued to move northwest toward Surigao City in Surigao del Norte, state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday night.

In its 11 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said the cyclone was last seen 405 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur packing maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Ambo accelerated slightly to 20 kph from 15 kph at 4 p.m. 

PAGASA said the hoisting of a tropical cyclone wind signal over any area in the country within the next 48 hours remained unlikely.

Forecast weather conditions

The state weather bureau said Ambo will bring scattered light to moderate with isolated heavy rains during thunderstorms over Mindanao.

PAGASA added that moderate to rough seas will also be experienced on the eastern seaboards of Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental.

They advised fisherfolk and those with small seacraft not to venture out to these areas.

Forecast positions

By Monday evening, the cyclone is expected to be 430 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

By Tuesday evening, it will move to 350 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

By Wednesday evening, Ambo will be 285 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

By Thursday evening, it will be 35 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

By Friday evening, the cyclone will move to 75 kilometers northwest of Baguio City. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
