Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 may be raised over portions of Eastern Visayas on Tuesday in anticipation of potentially strong winds that will be brought by Tropical Depression Ambo, state weather bureau PAGASA said Monday night.

In its 11 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA also said Ambo is expected to intensify into a tropical storm within the next 24 hours.

A tropical depression is a cyclone that packs maximum sustained winds of up to 61 kilometers per hour (kph), while a tropical storm has a maximum wind speed of 62 to 88 kph, according to PAGASA.

The eye of Ambo was last estimated to be 300 kilometers east-northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Ambo is moving northwest slowly with maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Forecast weather conditions

The cyclone is expected to bring scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rainshowers during thunderstorms over Mindanao within the next 24 hours.

“Flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur in highly to very highly susceptible areas during heavy or prolonged rainfall,” the state weather bureau warned.

By Wednesday evening, it will move to 155 kilometers east-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

By Thursday evening, it will be in the vicinity of Libon, Albay.

By Friday evening, Ambo will move to the vicinity of San Jose, Tarlac.
