Signal No. 1 still up over Batanes, Babuyan Islands; Ambo expected to weaken to LPA

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Islands on Sunday morning as Tropical Depression Ambo (international name: Vongfong) was in an almost stationary position over the Luzon Strait, PAGASA said in its early morning forecast.

Light to moderate rains which may turn heavy will pour over the above mentioned areas in the next 24 hours.

Winds 30-60 km/h strong are prevailing or are to be expected in 36 hours in these areas as well.

Sea travel remains risky especially for small sea vessels over the seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

As of 4 a.m. Sunday, Ambo's eye or center was located at 125 km west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan.

Ambo has maximum winds of up to 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

The tropical depression is expected to weaken further and become a low pressure area in the next 12 to 24 hours.

 

By Monday morning, Ambo is expected to be 180 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes.

PAGASA advised residents and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take the necessary precautions and await the next severe weather bulletin to be issued at 11 a.m. —KG, GMA News
