17 areas under Signal No. 1 as Auring heads toward Eastern Samar

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remained hoisted on Monday morning over 17 areas as Tropical Depression Auring (international name: Dujuan) is expected to bring heavy rains as it moves toward Eastern Samar, PAGASA said.

Areas under TCWS No. 1 are:

  1. Sorsogon
  2. Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands
  3. Albay
  4. Catanduanes
  5. eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Presentacion, Sagnay, Buhi, Iriga City, Nabua, Bato, Balatan)
  6. Northern Samar
  7. Eastern Samar
  8. Samar
  9. Biliran
  10. Leyte
  11. Southern Leyte
  12. northern portion of Cebu (Balamban, Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, Asturias, Danao City, Carmen, Catmon, Sogod, Tuburan, Borbon, San Remigio, Tabuelan, Tabogon, Bogo City, Medellin, Daanbantayan) including Bantayan and Camotes Islands
  13. northern portion of Negros Occidental (Enrique B. Magalona, Victorias City, Manapla, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Toboso, Escalante City, Calatrava)
  14. eastern portion of Capiz (Cuartero, Dumarao, Ma-Ayon, Pontevedra, Panay, President Roxas, Panitan, Dao, Pilar)
  15. eastern portion of Iloilo (Lemery, Ajuy, Sara, Concepcion, San Dionisio, Batad, Estancia, Balasan, Carles, San Rafael, Passi City, Barotac Viejo, Banate, San Enrique)
  16. Dinagat Islands
  17. Surigao del Norte

 

The above-mentioned areas will have winds of 30-60 km/h prevailing or expected in 36 hours.

Rainfall

Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Marinduque, Romblon, and Quezon will have moderate to heavy rains on Monday due to Auring.

Aurora and the rest of Visayas, MIMAROPA, and CALABARZON meanwhile will have light to moderate with at times heavy rains.

On Tuesday, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Metro Manila, Camarines Norte, Bulacan, Aurora, Isabela, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Batanes will have light to moderate with at times heavy rains.

PAGASA warned of isolated to scattered flooding, including flash-floods, and rain-induced landslides during heavy or prolonged rainfall in areas prone to these hazards, as well as in adjacent or nearby areas which may be affected by surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

Winds

The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) and Auring will bring strong breezes with occasional gusts over areas under TCWS as well as over Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the northern portions of Ilocos Norte and mainland Cagayan, Cuyo Islands, Cagayancillo Islands, and the rest of Visayas and Bicol Region.

Coastal waters

Rough seas will be experienced in the next 24 hours over the seaboards of areas under TCWS, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon not under any TCWS (waves up to 2.5 to 3.5 m), the southern seaboard of Luzon and the remaining seaboards of Visayas (wave heights up to 2.5 to 3.0 m).

PAGASA said sea travel is risky especially for small seacraft.

Meanwhile, moderate to rough seas with waves up to 2.5 m will be experienced over the remaining seaboards of Luzon, and the northern, eastern, and western seaboards of Mindanao not under any TCWS.

Those with small seacraft were advised to take precautions when venturing out to sea, and inexperienced mariners were urged to avoid navigating at this time.

Location

Auring's center was located at 7 a.m. at 205 km east northeast of Maasin City, Southern Leyte or 85 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

Auring is moving north northwestward at 20 km/h.

By Tuesday morning, the tropical depression is expected to be 60 km northwest of Romblon, Romblon.

Auring is expected to make landfall in the next 6 to 12 hours over Eastern Samar as a tropical depression or a low pressure area.

Evacuations, class cancellations

A total of 13,725 families in Caraga Region have evacuated from their homes due to the threat of Auring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Monday.

The Philippine Coast Guard said a total of 4,565 passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers are stranded in different ports in the country due to Auring.

Flooding and power outage were reported in Surigao del Sur on Sunday.

Classes were canceled in some areas due to the bad weather.

Airport authorities also announced the cancellation of flights scheduled for Monday.
