Topaz Road in Ortigas Center closed to motorists due to cracks

Local authorities closed to motorists a portion of Topaz Road in Ortigas Center, Pasig City after long cracks were seen on the street.

The Pasig City Disaster and Risk Response was informed past 6 p.m. on Sunday that there were cracks spotted on Topaz Road after heavy rains poured, according to a report by Bam Alegre on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.

The cracks were seen on the portion of Topaz Road in between a building and a construction site.

A huge tarpaulin and early warning cones were placed overnight in the area.

The fire and rescue team of Barangay San Antonio meanwhile cordoned off the area to prevent any untoward accident.

According to Barangay Chairman Raymond Lising, there was an ongoing excavation at the construction site along the road. The excavation has not yet been covered, he added.

"So itong malakas na pag-ulan talagang nagdulot siguro ng earth movement," he said.

(The heavy rains may have triggered earth movement.)

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology is expected to conduct an inspection in the area within the day. —KG, GMA News
