For Alex Diaz, being part of the LGBT community helps him inspire other showbiz personalities to “break the stereotype” and be who they want to be.

In an online interview, the actor shared his thoughts on how the country treated celebrities like him who chose to let themselves free.

“There’s always that fear from a business standpoint na mata-typecast ako lalo na because one, I’m LGBT and sa bansa natin, it’s very conservative,” he said.

“It’s very negative and sometimes disgusting, the kind of words [people] use to label people and I think there’s that fear. Kaya sobrang daming lalaki sa showbiz na tago pa rin kasi sinasabi na tapos na ’yung career,” he added.

According to Alex, he wants to serve as proof that coming out doesn’t mean letting go of one’s future.

“Instead of not working, I’m working more. I do this because I’m afraid but there’s so many people who don’t have the courage to do this,” he said.

“If they see somebody doing it and thriving, it dissolves the stereotype na hindi pwede ’to, so siguro may takot pero lalaban tayo,” he added.

Alex said no one should dictate who should or should not be respected in showbiz.

“We break the stereotype that you have to be like this to be famous, to pursue acting as a passion. (There’s) fear pero we got this,” he said.

Alex will star on the “My Fantastic Pag-Ibig” two-part episode boys’ love (BL) series titled “Fairy Tail Romance” with Yasser Marta.

The series, which will premiere on March 13, follows the story Nep who falls in love with Alex’s character, the mermaid Lantis.
