‘Squid Game’ cast members express gratitude as series gets 4 SAG Awards nominations

The cast members of “Squid Game” have expressed their gratitude as the hit Korean series receives four nominations at the 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards!

Lee Jung Jae, who played Seong Gi Hun or Player 456, is nominated for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series. He is up against Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong (“Succession”), and Billy Crudup (“The Morning Show”).

Hoyeon Jung, who portrayed Kang Sae Byeok or Player 67, is nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series. Her fellow nominees are Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon (“The Morning Show”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Sarah Snook (“Succession”).

“Squid Game,” meanwhile, is competing for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series alongside “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Morning Show,” “Succession,” and “Yellowstone.”

The series is also one of the finalists for outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a television series, together with “Cobra Kai,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Loki,” and “Mare of Easttown.”

“I’m speechless and beyond excited to be nominated , not just individually but for our entire Squid Game team!” Lee Jung Jae wrote on Instagram.

“Thank you so much to the members of SAG-AFTRA. I am so humbled and want to share this moment with all the fans of Squid Game who have faith in justice and love, we as people cherish,” he added.

Hoyeon Jung also thanked SAG Awards and shared her excitement over their ensemble nomination.

“Working on this series, and acting for the first time, I thought about how creating something ‘together,’ and ‘as an ensemble’ just might be the true value of our society,” she said.

“My sincere thanks to the members of SAG-AFTRA and all the viewers from around the world that love and support Squid Game,” said Park Hae Soo, who played Cho Sang Woo or Player 218.

Meanwhile, Anupam Tripathi who played Abdul Ali or Player 199 commended his cast mates. “We made history together,” he shared on Instagram.

The 28th SAG Awards will be held on Feb. 27, 2022, 8 p.m. ET or 5 p.m. PT in Santa Monica, California. – RC, GMA News
