Shaira Diaz and EA Guzman

IT HADN'T EVEN BEEN A WEEK since Shaira Diaz and EA Guzman tied the knot when they arrived at GMA Network in Quezon City for a busy interview-filled Wednesday afternoon in August.

Driving up in a month-old BMW with his passenger princess beside him, EA and Shaira arrived in the Kapuso compound sporting a different kind of glow. Both admitted the wedding had something to do with it.

According to Shaira, marriage changed everything: from the way they call each other "baba" to "asawa ko" down to the renewed sense of "kilig" every single day since their wedding.

“Akala ko formality lang [ang kasal], pero iba pala talaga sa pakiramdam kapag kasal na kayo,” she reflected. “Lagi ko siyang hinahanap, lagi ko siyang tinatwag na ‘asawa ko.’”

["I thought marriage was just a formality, but it really feels different once you're married. I'm always looking for him, always calling him 'my husband.'"]

The "Bubble Gang" comedian admitted to sharing the same sentiment with his wife, saying, "Ang sarap sa pakiramdam ikasal. May spark, may kilig."

["It feels so good that we’re married. There's a spark, there's 'kilig.'"]

The day they said 'I Do'

After a dozen years of being together, Shaira and EA finally said “I Do” in a dreamy wedding that exceeded even their own expectations.

The couple exchanged their vows on August 14 at St. Benedict Church in Silang, Cavite. Shaira walked down the aisle in a breathtaking gown from the 2024 bridal collection of South Korean designer Choi Jae Hoon.

The ensemble featured an embroidered fitted bodice with a strapless straight neckline, a voluminous skirt, and a sheer veil draping over her shoulders. She carried a cascading, floating bouquet of white orchids styled by Gideon Hermosa.

Her makeup artist, Joan Quizon, revealed it was Shaira’s love for K-dramas inspired her wedding look.

"Shaira is such a big fan of all things Korean, so it was only fitting that she went for a natural, glowy Korean-inspired look," Joan told GMA News Online.

With no trial run beforehand, they finalized the look on the wedding day itself, with the makeup artist describing the bride as someone who knows what she’s going for and is easy to collaborate with.

"We kept it clean, fresh, and radiant for that Korean-bride aesthetic," she said.

At the church's altar, EA was dapper in a classic black suit by Filipino designer Francis Libiran. He wore a piece of orchid as his brooch to match Shaira's bouquet.

The wedding's guest list was nothing short of star-studded, including bridesmaids Julia Montes, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and Arra San Agustin, and Shaira's "Unang Hirit" co-hosts Kaloy Tingcungco and Anjo Pertierra as bridesmen.

On the groom's side, there were Coco Martin, Rayver Cruz, Rodjun Cruz, Joross Gamboa, and Gerald Anderson.

The couple's principal sponsors include GMA Network executives Annette Gozon-Valdes, Nessa Valdellon, Joy Marcelo, and Cheryl Ching Sy, as well as Boy Abunda, Arnold Clavio, Susan Enriquez, Jean Garcia, Ben Chan, and Senator Jinggoy Estrada, among others.

Also present during the #SHAIranghEAyo wedding were Jennylyn Mercado, Vicky Morales, and EA's "Bubble Gang" co-stars Michael V., Kokoy De Santos, Cheska Fausto, Matt Lozano, Paolo Contis, and Chariz Solomon.

They continued celebrating their union at Angelfields Nature Sanctuary in Tagaytay, with Gideon turning the venue into a dreamy reception. Long, serpentine tables were decorated with candlelight and lush greenery, while white accents dominated the entire venue.

It took the couple to plan the wedding for a year and a half, and while it was all for just one day, EA described it as fleeting but unforgettable.

"Sobrang bilis ‘yung wedding namin,” he said. “Parang dumaan lang.”

["It was so fast. Our wedding felt like it just passed by in a blink of an eye."]

Late-night shenanigans

Wedding superstitions say you shouldn't see your fiancé the night before the wedding but Shaira and EA bucked the belief.

"Ito na 'yung huling gabi namin as boyfriend and girlfriend. Kasama pa pamilya namin," she said. “Gusto talaga namin makasama silang lahat on the last night before our wedding.”

["This was our last night as boyfriend and girlfriend, and our families were with us. We really wanted to spend it with all of them on the night before our wedding."]

The couple even went to confession together before their family dinner.

“Sabay naman kaming pumunta ng hotel, tapos nag confession din kami before our family dinner,” EA said. “Nagkita na rin naman kami, so sabi ko ‘huwag na lang tayo magkita bukas simula sa umaga ng kasal’.”

["We went to the hotel together, and we also went to confession before dinner, so we had already seen each other anyway, which is why I said, let's not see each other anymore starting from the morning of the wedding."]

After the night was over, and each of them were in their own hotel rooms, a wide-awake Shaira decided to shoot EA a message to ask if he had prepared a personal vow apart from the one in the ceremony.

“Akala ko hindi na kami gagawa kasi ang ganda na noong prenup namin sa South Korea,” she recalled. “Pero noong sinabi niyang meron siya, nataranta ako!”

["I thought we wouldn't do another one anymore because our prenup shoot in South Korea was already so beautiful. But when he said he had prepared something, I panicked!"]

“Paiba-iba ako ng direction sa vows ko, pero ‘yung pinaka-last na sinabi ko na ‘magiging masaya ka na mamaya,’ na feel ko na lang ‘yun on the spot,” she confessed.

["My vows kept going in different directions, but the very last thing I said that 'you're going to be happy later,' I just felt that on the spot."]

That spontaneous line went viral on social media, especially after the couple revealed they had chosen to remain celibate until marriage.

EA’s lighthearted admission on “Unang Hirit” that Shaira fell asleep on their wedding night also made rounds online. But for EA, it was no big of a deal.

"Alam ko naman na pagod siya, so walang problema sa akin 'yun," he said, followed by their laughter.

["I knew she was tired, so it was no problem for me."]

A day made for them

Shaira wanted her wedding day to start slow and stress-free. But as her bridal room began to fill with her team, she had to snap out of her cozy bubble.

What lingered in her mind wasn't nerves about the vows or the ceremony: it was the weather.

Before their wedding day, rain had poured relentlessly in Metro Manila. So, in true Filipino fashion, the couple offered eggs to pray for good weather.

Whether it was faith, luck, or eggs, August 14 was the only day that week with bright and rain-free skies.

“Parang effective naman siya, pero mas naniniwala ako kay Lord. Nilagpasan ng ulan ‘yung araw na ‘yun, as in walang ulan, tapos kinabukasan of the wedding, umulan ulit,” she said.

["It seemed effective, but I believe in the Lord more. The rain skipped that day, as in, there was no rain. And then the day after the wedding, it rained again."]

“So, doon pa lang, talagang ramdam na ramdam na namin ‘yung presence ni Lord sa kasal namin,” she added.

["So right then and there, we could really feel the presence of the Lord in our wedding."]

The couple insisted their big day turned out better than anything they had envisioned.

"Actually, our wedding exceeded our expectations," Shaira beamed. “Nahigitan pa talaga sa tulong ng team namin, from organizers to designers to catering.”

["Actually, our wedding exceeded our expectations. It went beyond what we imagined, thanks to our team, from the organizers to the designers to the catering."]

For EA, the day was stress-free, smooth-sailing, and simply a day made for them.

Wheels to match

Before the wedding, EA made a big purchase—an investment to symbolize their married life—in the form of a BMW, which also became his groom's car.

"Naisip ko parang mas maganda kapag mag-asawa na kami na 'yung car namin is next level na," he said, admitting his interest in cars only began recently.

["I thought it would be better if, once we were married, our car would be a level up."]

He was able to own his ultimate dream car — a Mustang — but only used it for less than a year.

“Noong time na namimili ako, nag-iisip pa ako ng groom’s car ko. Parang ayaw ko na ng hassle, ayaw ko na makiusap sa iba na manghiram, so bumili na lang ako,” he said. “And then after naman noon, sa amin na ‘yun na mag asawa.”

["At that time, I was also thinking about what to use as my groom's car, and I didn't want the hassle of borrowing or asking favors from others. So, I decided to just buy one. And after that, it would be ours as a married couple."]

EA also said the car was a reward for all their hard work as a couple.

“Kumbaga, s’yempre kapag mag asawa na kami, gusto ko naman ‘yung asawa ko, nakasakay naman sa maganda at pinaghirapan kong sasakyan,” he said.

["In other words, now that we're married, I want my wife to be riding in a car that's beautiful and something I worked hard for."]

The waiting game

Shaira and EA first met on a reality TV show in 2012 and officially became a couple a year later. In 2021, after 11 years of being together, they got privately engaged, and they only announced their engagement publicly in 2024.

When asked if it was hard keeping it a secret for so long, Shaira shook her head.

“‘Yung pagtago ng engagement namin, hindi naman masyadong mahirap kasi hindi ko lang naman sinusuot ‘yung engagement ring ko,” she said.

[“Keeping our engagement a secret wasn't that hard because I just didn't wear my engagement ring."]

“I’m very grateful to EA talaga kasi binigay niya sa akin ‘yung timing kung kalian ako ready i-announce,” she added.

["I'm very grateful to EA because he gave me the freedom to decide when I was ready to announce it."

Shaira previously shared she wanted to marry EA after completing her bachelor's degree in marketing, a goal she achieved in August of last year.

They initially planned to tie the knot in 2026, but their love refused to wait any longer. Shaira and EA decided to move their wedding a year earlier.

“Naramdaman ko talaga na ready na ako magpakasal this year,” Shaira said. “And ito, totoo talaga ito, sabi ko talaga kay EA na, ‘I can’t wait to marry you.’”

["I felt I was ready to marry this year. And this is really true: I told EA, 'I can't wait to marry you.'"]

Partners in business, partners in life

Before walking down the aisle, the two tested their teamwork by opening a franchise of a Baa Baa milk tea shop in March.

EA likened the experience of managing a business to being in a relationship. “Parang give and take lang kami doon, especially kapag busy siya, ako ‘yung nagte-take over, tapos pag ako naman ‘yung maraming ginagawa, siya naman ang nakatutok doon,” he said.

["It's really just give and take with us, especially when he's busy, I take over, and when I'm the one with a lot on my plate, he's the one who focuses on it."]

"I'm very lucky din na 'yung business partner ko, my wife, finished a marketing degree. So alam niya kung paano magpatakbo ng business,” he added.

["I'm also very lucky that my business partner, my wife, finished a marketing degree. So, she knows how to run a business."

As newlyweds, they now dream of opening a sports bar or Irish pub, which is EA’s longtime dream business.

“Feeling ko magiging successful siya, kasi every night, walang araw na walang umiinom,” EA quipped.

[“I feel it would be successful. Every night, there's never a day without someone drinking."

“’Yung dream business naman ni EA [this time], kasi yung Baa Baa, may coffee din siya. Initially kasi gusto ko ng coffee shop, and then sakto naman na may coffee na doon,” Shaira added.

["This time, we want to make EA's dream business come true. Initially, I wanted a coffee shop, and it just so happened that Baa Baa already has coffee offerings."]

Honeymoon avenue

Soon after the wedding, the couple returned to work, with Shaira continuing her hosting stint at "Unang Hirit" and EA taping for "Bubble Gang," which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

But their honeymoon plans are set. In September, they’ll fly to Switzerland, followed by a U.S. trip in October.

“Hindi pa kami pareho nakapunta sa Switzerland, and sa lahat ng videos na napapanuod namin sa social media, naging interesado kami,” EA said.

["We've never been to Switzerland, and from all the videos we've seen on social media, we both became really interested."]

The couple plans to stay in Switzerland for nine days but already Shaira has hinted that the trip could be extended.

"Siguro if 'yung visa namin ma-grant ng longer than our proposed dates, baka mag-libot kami sa Europe," she said.

["If our visa gets approved for longer than our proposed dates, we might explore more of Europe."]

Whether or not the extension pushes through, the newlyweds also has a U.S. trip planned in October to visit Shaira's relatives and watch a Chris Brown concert, as EA is a big fan.

As of this cover story, the newlyweds intend to enjoy the company of each other and are not rushing to get pregnant.

Similar to giving Shaira the decision on when to announce their engagement and when to get married, EA also leaves it up to his wife on when to decide when she feels ready to start a family.

But before that, the couple is set to continue their showbiz careers to prepare for their responsibility as future parents.

Twelve years is a long time, but for Shaira and EA, love is never about waiting; it is about choosing each other every single day. Their story proves that the right time isn't found, it's made together. —LA, GMA Integrated News
