For this year’s election, there are 94 male voters for every 100 female voters nationwide.
Based on the latest data of the Commission on Elections, 51 percent of the 61.84 million registered voters for the May 13 polls are women and 49 percent are men. That’s 31.82 million women and 30.03 million men — a difference of 1.79 million.
Eleven out of the 17 regions in the country have more female voters than male voters. There are more women who registered to vote in the National Capital Region, Region 4A, Region 3, Region 7, Region 5, Region 6, Region 1, Region 11, Region 4B, Region 2 and Region 9.
Among the regions, Metro Manila has the lowest number of male voters versus female voters: there are 83 males per 100 females. There are 3,866,038 female registered voters and 3,208,565 male registered voters, a difference of 657,473.
When rounded off to the nearest whole number, two regions – Region 9 and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao — have the same number of male and female voters.
Four regions have male voters than female voters: Cordillera Administrative Region, Region 12, Region 8 and CARAGA.
Provinces
There are more female voters than male voters in more than half of the 81 provinces in the country.
Among these 48 provinces where women outnumber men are all but one of 17 vote-rich provinces with more than 1 million registered voters each. Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Laguna, Pampanga, Davao del Sur, Cebu, Batangas, Quezon, Camarines Sur, Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Zamboanga del Sur, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, and Isabela all have more female voters.
Among these provinces, Cavite has the biggest gender difference in its 2.15 million voting pool, with 85 male voters for every 100 female voters. There are 1,163,208 female voters and 985,691 male voters, a difference of 177,517.
In 26 provinces, the number of male voters exceeded the number of female voters. Mountain Province tops this list: there are 100 female for every 110 male registered voters.
Vote-rich Leyte is at the bottom of this list, with 100 female voters for every 101 male voters. Seven provinces have an equal number of male and female registered voters: Occidental Mindoro, Masbate, Dinagat Islands, Ilocos Sur, Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, and Agusan del Norte.
Metro Manila
In all 17 local government units in the National Capital Region, the number of female voters is bigger than male voters.
Makati City has the widest gender gap: 77 male to 100 female registered voters.
In Quezon City, the city with the most number of registered voters in the country, there are 81 male voters for every 100 female voters. Of its 1.33 million registered voters, 736,776 are women and 593,342 are men — a difference of 143,434.
