UST supports Aldin Ayo's appeal vs indefinite ban from UAAP

The University of Santo Tomas is supporting the appeal of former head coach Aldin Ayo against the indefinite ban slapped on him by the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

In a statement

on Tuesday, the league said it received a letter from the University endorsing Ayo's request for reconsideration.

"The association will tackle the appeal in due time," said the UAAP.

Ayo resigned from his post as the head coach of the Growling Tigers following the fallout from the alleged "Sorsogon bubble."

The UAAP sanctioned the coach for "endangering the health and well-being of the student athletes under his charge when he conducted the training during a government-declared state of public emergency intended to arrest the COVID-19 outbreak."

The Philippine National Police cleared Ayo of any liability for the said training in the province. The former Tigers head coach said the players engaged in activities such as farming during their stay in Sorsogon.

The Commission on Higher Education earlier said it will issue a show cause order to UST regarding the alleged breach of protocol.

Chairperson Popoy de Vera also confirmed that based on the school's report, a training outside Metro Manila occurred but added it does not necessarily mean the team has committed violations.

The bubble issue has led to the exit of several players from the España-based squad such as CJ Cansino, Rhenz Abando, and Mark Nonoy—Justin Kenneth Carandang/MGP, GMA News
