Marc Pingris ready to give way to Calvin Abueva amid retirement talk

By BEA MICALLER,GMA News

As Marc Pingris continues to weigh the decision of calling it a career, he stressed he’s ready to give way to new teammate Calvin Abueva even if he decides to have another run with Magnolia.

In fact, the seasoned forward is willing to give Abueva a lot of his share of the minutes.

“Mas maganda nga, sa kanya na yung 80 percent eh, para wala na akong trabaho. Nood na lang ako,” Pingris said in jest during an interview with GMA News Online.

“Wala ng problema doon. Kahit sino, basta manalo lang.”

Pingris, 39, is currently pondering on whether to retire from the PBA after 16 colorful seasons.

He was not in attendance when the Hotshots waged war in the 2020 Philippine Cup in Clark last year due to a chronic foot and ankle injury. The 6-foot-4 forward is also constantly training at the comforts of his home so that his body will be at its peak once actions resume.

But pending his decision, Pingris said he’s willing to pass on his playing time to younger players like Abueva along with other bigs in Ian Sangalang and Jackson Corpuz as they could help the team revive its winning ways.

Abueva, according to Pingris, would be a great addition to the team especially after he finished the previous conference in top shape, averaging 13.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assists.

“Naging magkakampi na kami sa Gilas before. Grabe, as in 100 percent yung binibigya niya,” the animated cager said.

“Makulit lang talaga siya pero pag trabaho, trabaho lang talaga.”

Pingris revealed that he may come up with a final decision before the league opens Season 46 this June. —JMB, GMA News
