Orlando Magic pick Paolo Banchero No. 1 in 2022 NBA Draft

The Orlando Magic selected Paolo Banchero as the top overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft held on Thursday (Friday in Manila).

Banchero is a 6-foot-10 forward who played for the Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA.

7-footer Chet Holmgren of Gonzaga University went No. 2 to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Houston Rockets picked 19-year-old Jabari Smith Jr. at No. 3. 

Keegan Murray went to Sacramento  at No. 4, Jaden Ivey to Detroit at No. 5, and Benedict Mathurin to Indiana at No. 6.

Shaedon Sharpe, Dyson Daniels, and Jeremy Sochan went to Portland, New Orleans, and San Antonio, respectively, with the 7th to 9th picks. Washington rounded out the Top 10 by selecting Johnny Davis.

The Knicks picked Ousman Dieng out of the NZ Breakers at 11, the Thunder selected Jalen Williams at 12, the Hornets drafted Jalen Duren at 13 and the Cavs took Ochai Agbaji at 14.

A pair of Duke players in Mark Williams and AJ Griffin went 15 and 16 to Charlotte and Atlanta to close out the lottery.

Outside of the lottery notable picks include Serbian Nikola Jovic, who went to the Miami Heat at 27. The 2022 NBA champion Golden State Warriors picked Patrick Baldwin Jr. late in the first round at 28.
