Pido Jarencio returns as UST head coach —report

Pido Jarencio is set to come home as the veteran tactician has been named the new head coach of the University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP.

Jarencio will replace Bal David, who recently tendered his resignation following just one season with the Tigers in Season 85.

The Varsitarian, the school's official student publication, reported the development on Friday.

Jarencio was at the helm when UST last won a basketball title as he steered the España-based squad to the 2006 throne behind then stars Jervy Cruz, Jojo Duncil, Dylan Ababou, and Japs Cuan.

UST hasn't won a crown since then.

Ever since he parted ways with UST, Jarencio had been in the professional coaching circuit after having an assistant coaching stint with Petron as well as San Miguel Beermen in the ABL. His latest coaching gig was at NorthPort, where he served as head coach from 2017 to 2022.

At UST, Jarencio will inherit a squad that is currently in a 13-game losing streak as its lone win in the previous season came at the expense of Adamson University during their season opener.
