Pacquiao begins training camp for his next fight

By JM SIASAT

Eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao has started training for his next fight against a yet to be announced opponent.

The 42-year-old wanted a showdown with mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor later this year but was derailed after the latter suffered a stoppage loss at UFC 257.

Recent reports suggest that Pacquiao may end up fighting WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia instead.

“Training camp has begun. I’m ready to get back in the ring and to further add to my legacy in the sport of boxing. Big news coming soon,” Pacquiao, an incumbent senator, wrote on Twitter.

The Filipino boxing icon, who holds a record of 62-7-2 with 39 knockouts, last saw action against Keith Thurman in July 2019 where he won via split decision to claim the WBA world welterweight title which was recently stripped due to his inactivity. -- BAP, GMA News
