Hidilyn Diaz emotional as fellow Olympian Carlo Paalam clinches medal in Tokyo

The Philippines' first-ever gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz continues to rally behind her fellow Olympians still fighting their battles in Tokyo.

In a video she posted on Facebook, Diaz was heard cheering on boxer Carlo Paalam, who on Tuesday clinched a semifinals berth in the men's flyweight division for a sure medal finish.

Diaz repeatedly chanted "Congratulations, Carlo" and "Thank you, Lord" as she watched the 23-year-old pug stun the 2016 Rio gold medalist Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals of the men's flyweight division.

Paalam will now gear up for his semis clash against home hope Ryomei Tanaka of Japan.

Diaz also wished good luck for other Philippine bets in boxer Nesthy Petecio and pole vaulter EJ Obiena, who are both set to compete for a medal later.
