Rolando Dy on Mark Striegl making it to UFC: ‘He has to pass USADA’

Filipino-American mixed martial arts star Mark Striegl has everything it takes to be in the UFC, but he may come across an unexpected roadblock according to former Pinoy UFC fighter Rolando Dy.

The 32-year-old Striegl has been offered to compete in the top MMA promotion in the world. In a conversation with GMA News Online, he confirmed that he has a verbal agreement to face top prospect Timur Valiev though he is yet to sign a contract.

Striegl has been previously accused by the camp of his old foe Do Gyum Lee and some fans that he is taking illegal substance, and if there is a shred of reality to it, then he may face problems in the UFC, an organization that strictly implements anti-doping policies, according to Dy.

“They say Mark Striegl is going to the UFC. I love Mark, but if the rumors are true, he has to pass USADA,” Dy told The Hit List.

“There are so many fighters who are ready for the UFC but not ready for USADA. So if Mark can pass USADA, skill-wise, strength-wise, I think he is ready.”

USADA or the United States Anti-Doping Agency is contracted by the UFC as its independent anti-doping agency. The organization has caught a handful of athletes in the past and has a wide array of banned substances.

“USADA is very strict to the point that I only drink coffee back then,” remembered Dy, who was cut by the UFC after going 1-3 in the organization.

“Even an energy drink is not allowed. Coffee, whey protein, and multivitamins are the only ones you can take.”

Dy also iterated that he is not one of those who accuse Striegl of taking illegal substance, but he nevertheless warned the latter to be extra cautious with what he puts in his body.

“I’m not saying Mark is on steroids, I’m not saying that he is doing something [illegal],” he stressed.

“But if he is taking something legal in his previous organization that used to be legal like fat burner, it’s possible that he fails USADA. All I’m saying is there’s a lot prohibited that are normal for us athletes.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
