EJ Obiena returns to action after Tokyo Olympics bid

The Philippines' pole vault ace EJ Obiena is ready to get back to action following an 11th-place finish in the recently-concluded 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The 25-year-old Obiena himself made the announcement on his Facebook account and shared he will be trying his mettle in the Athletissima in Lausanne, Switzerland on August 26, Thursday, where he will be pitted against tough opponents.

Obiena will be competing once more against his fellow Tokyo Olympians in gold medalist Mondo Duplantis of Sweden and Christopher Nilsen of the United States, who took the silver in Tokyo.

American Sam Kendricks will also join the meet and is expected to redeem himself after missing out the Olympics due to a positive COVID-19 test.

The competition is set to fire off at 7:35 p.m. (1:35 a.m. in Philippine time). — LA, GMA News
