Hidilyn Diaz, Eumir Marcial receive heroes' welcome in Zamboanga City

Olympic medalists Hidilyn Diaz and Eumir Marcial on Wednesday received a heroes' welcome upon their return to their hometown Zamboanga City.

In a program, Diaz and Marcial were given spots in the city's Walk of Fame in the R.T. Lim Boulevard.

The two, while in the City Hall, also received cash rewards from the local government unit, with Diaz getting P2.5 million and Marcial having P1 million.

According to an Unang Balita report, the two Olympians encouraged the youth to be in sports and achieve success when the time comes.

Diaz became the country's first Olympic gold medalist after winning the women's weightlifting 55-kg category. Marcial, meanwhile, brought home a bronze medal from the men's middleweight event in the recently concluded 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
