Filipino para athletes return home after Paralympics campaign

The Philippine delegation to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics is now back in the country.

Jeanette Aceveda (para discus throw), Gary Bejino and Ernie Gawilan (para swimming), and Jerrold Mangliwan (wheelchair racing), together with the rest of the Philippine Paralympic delegation, returned on Sunday evening, according to photos posted by the Philippine Sports Commission on Twitter.

Bejino concluded his campaign on Friday with a last-place finish in the backstroke event

Gawilan, meanwhile, ended his contention for a Paralympics medal on August 30 with a 10th place finish in the backstroke heats.

For his campaign, Mangliwan set a new personal record in the men's 1500m - T52 finals.

The wheelchair racer wrapped the Philippines' campaign on Friday in the men's 100m event.

Six Filipino para athletes were qualified for the Tokyo Paralympics. However, power lifter Achele Guion and taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin both missed the Games after testing positive to COVID-19.

Aceveda, meanwhile, was already in Tokyo when she also tested positive for COVID-19 and had to withdraw from her event.
