Victim recovers stolen phone after back and forth chase with robber

A victim was able to recover his stolen cellphone after a wild back-and-forth chase ensued between him and the alleged robber in Manila, Jun Veneracion reported Tuesday on 24 Oras.

CCTV footage recorded how a youngster chased the suspect down an alley as he wanted to retrieve his stolen mobile phone.

The robber however spun around, then threatened and chased his victim.

The tables were turned again after the victim asked for help from bystanders as the robber chased him.

“Bumunot siya ng kutsilyo, gusto niyang saksakin. Ay kaso kukuyugin sana sya ng mga tao kaya ang cellphone, sa takot niya, binato niya. Nasambot ng hindoldap nya,” barangay chairperson Nenita Rosas said.

([The suspect] pulled out a knife. He wanted to stab the victim but maybe in fear because he was about to be swarmed by residents, he threw the phone before fleeing. The victim caught the phone.”)

Local officials lauded the courage of the victim who they said insisted on reclaiming his phone because of the phone numbers stored in it.

“Mabilis gumalaw yung bata eh, aggressive sya eh. Kasi sabi nya wala na raw syang ibang pagkuhanan ng mga naka phonebook daw doon kaya kailangan maibalik yung cellphone,” said barangay official Karl Mans Amigo.

(The kid acted swiftly. He was aggressive because as he said, he has no other sources for the contacts in his phone.)
