By HANA BORDEY,GMA News

Two children, aged three and nine, died due to possible suffocation in a fire that broke out in their house in Valenzuela City Monday morning, according to a report of Super Radyo dzBB's Allan Gatus.

An initial report from the Bureau of Fire Protection showed that the fire in Urrutia street, General T. De Leon started around 8 a.m and declared under control at 8:31 a.m. The fire was finally put out at 8:44 a.m.

The bodies of the  victims were found inside their rest room.

In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian said the fire only lasted for about 30 minutes.

Although the firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading, Gatchalian said the two children were not able to get out of their house due to the thick smoke.

"Nakakalungkot malaman na possibly ho may dalawang bata ho na nasa loob na malamang ho na-suffocate due to the incident," he said.

"Mukhang hindi ganon kalaki ang sunog pero ang nangyari dito e mukhang nakulong at nasuffocate po ang mga bata at mabilis naman ang naging responde ng mga bumbero natin," he added.

While waiting for the official report from authorities, Gatchalian, who personally inspected the area, said they are looking at the electrical wirings as the possibe cause of the incident.

"Presumably po 'yung nanay ho ay lumabas para ho patayin ang fuse box by the time na bumalik lumakas na ang apoy," he said.

Gatchalian said the children were only accompanied by their mother as their father is an overseas Filipino worker.

He said the mother was "very emotional" as the incident happened on her birthday.

The local government of Valenzuela City will be extending burial assistance, food, and other goods to the family of the victims.

The city government will likewise provide psychological intervention to the mother of the kids who died from the incident.—AOL, GMA News
