Doctor denies refusing to check on hazing victim Salilig

By GMA Integrated News

The doctor who was mentioned in the John Matthew Salilig hazing case has denied allegations that he refused to check on the victim when he was asked to do so.

According to Cedric Castillo's report on "24 Oras", the doctor has presented himself to the National Bureau of Investigation and submitted his statement.

In an interview on the condition that he would not be identified, the doctor said he only picked up his cousin, whom he found only later to have joined the fraternity.

The doctor admitted that he was a member of the Tau Gamma Phi. He said he was unaware that there were initiation and welcoming rites.

In his affidavit, the doctor narrated that his cousin called him on the phone but it was another person who asked what had to be done to a person who lost consciousness.

The doctor answered the person had to be taken to a hospital.

The phone was then turned off. The doctor said he didn't know with whom he talked.

Salilig, a member of the fraternity chapter in Zamboanga, was welcomed into the Adamson chapter in rites in Biñan, Laguna on February 19.

He died afterward and fraternity members were alleged to have decided to bury his body instead of taking him to the hospital. —NB, GMA Integrated News
