Sinas admits it's 'high time' to review PNP's disciplinary policy

By ANNA FELICIA BAJO, GMA News

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Debold Sinas on Thursday admitted that it is high time to review the disciplinary mechanism within the police organization.

This came following the remark of Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa that Congress should revisit Republic Act  8551 or the Philippine National Police Reform and Reorganization Act of 1998 to improve the disciplinary mechanism in the police force.

Sinas said he agrees with Dela Rosa's statement that the PNP chief should be given authority to immediately dismiss rogue cops, subject to appeal.

"High time na po na bigyan ng pagre-review 'yung policy po namin dahil we always observe due process na ganito," Sinas said in an interview on ANC.

"Kung puwede iklian o bigyan ng mas magandang pag-aaral 'yung authority ng chief PNP to immediately dismiss 'yung mga pulis na gumawa po ng kalokohan..." he added.

Dela Rosa, a former PNP chief, said a stricter standard in retaining police officers in the PNP should be in place to remove police scalawags in the force.

The senator made the call because of the shooting incident in Paniqui, Tarlac perpetrated by Police Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca.

Unarmed Sonya and Frank Anthony Gregorio were killed in the incident. Nuezca was indicted for two counts of murder.

The PNP's Internal Affairs Service said it would resolve the administrative case against Nuezca within 30 days.—AOL, GMA News
