Amid resignation dare, Sinas insists he’s been doing reforms in PNP

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Debold Sinas has insisted that he has done reforms for the police organization amid the challenge of former Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez that he should introduce reforms in PNP or else quit from his post.

In a television interview Thursday, Sinas said Alvarez's remark is his own opinion. He said his records would show the reforms he has been instituting in the police force.

"We have done our best to make reforms.

He shared that when he was the chief of the Central Visayas police, he dismissed more than 200 erring cops and while he led the National Capital Region Police Office, a total of 778 police scalawags were dismissed from the service.

In his stint as PNP chief, Sinas said he already dismissed a total of 84 rogue cops.

Sinas, who is set to retire in May next year, said he is hoping to leave a police force that has disciplined cops.

Alvarez's dare to Sinas came after the incident in Paniqui, Tarlac where Police Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca fatally shot unarmed Sonya and Frank Anthony Gregorio.

Alvarez had pointed out that aside from holding Nuezca accountable for the crime, the PNP, as an institution, should review and reform what may have been wrong with it. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
