Philippines records 1,474 new COVID-19 cases; active cases at 22,070

The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday recorded 1,474 new COVID-19 cases bringing the nationwide tally to 2,824,499.

Active infections stood at 22,070. Of these cases, 58.1% are mild, 4.1% are asymptomatic, 20.02% are moderate, 12.5% are severe, and 5.3% are in critical condition.

The Philippines' COVID-19 positivity rate was at 3.2%, slightly lower than the 3.5% positivity rate recorded on Friday.

Both figures were within the World Health Organization's requirement target of less than a 5% positivity rate. The total conducted COVID-19 tests were 38,636.

Total recoveries climbed by 2,565 to 2,755,526 while 205 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 46,903.

Data also showed that 32% of 3,800 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 18% of the 13,500 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 23% of the 3,900 ward beds in the National Capital Region (NCR) were in use.

Based on the latest report, the DOH said two laboratories were not operational since November 18, while two laboratories failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The Health Department reported that 15 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 13 are recoveries.

In addition, 170 cases were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count. Of these, 169 are recoveries.

Meanwhile, at least 169 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation. — DVM, GMA News
