The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is all set to hold mock elections in 34 barangays nationwide on Wednesday, December 29.

In a virtual briefing, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said they will open the proceedings to the media, citizens' arm groups, and some political parties.

The mock polls will run simultaneously from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas:

  • National Capital Region: two barangays in Pateros, two in Taguig City, and two in Pasay City
  • Isabela: Two barangays in Cauayan City and two in Cordon
  • Albay: Two in Legaspi City and two in Pioduran
  • Negros Oriental: Two in Dumaguete City and two in Zamboanguita
  • Leyte: Two in Tacloban City, two in Baybay City, and two in Palampon

  • Maguindanao: Two in Cotabato City, two in Shariff Aguak, two in Buluan
  • Davao del Sur: Two barangays in Digos City and two barangays in Sulop

Jimenez said the test ballot measures a “whopping 30 inches long” and it will contain fictitious names of candidates.

The national and local candidates' names are printed on the front page of the ballot while the names of the party-lists are placed at the back.

“These are fictitious names. So we will not be using the tentative list for anything even in resembling mock elections. That will not be a good idea,” he said.

Among the details that the Comelec will observe is the Voters Assistance Desk, which was created for easier access to voters’ information.

Jimenez said they will also evaluate the public’s understanding about the emergency accessible polling places and the isolation polling places, as well as the setting inside the classrooms or polling areas.

The Comelec will livestream the mock elections. — BM, GMA News
