Areas under granular lockdown nationwide balloon to 765 — PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday that from 396, the number of areas under granular lockdown in the country has almost doubled to 765.

Based on PNP data as of Tuesday,  272 of the locked-down areas were in the National Capital Region, 205 in Cagayan, 185 in Cordillera, 70 in Ilocos, 18 in Mimaropa, and 15 in Western Visayas.

A total of 2,009 people were affected by the granular lockdowns, according to the PNP.

The PNP has deployed 496 personnel and 969 force multipliers in the locked-down areas to ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards.

Local government units (LGUs) decide whether or not to impose or lift a granular lockdown on a house, compound, street, or building based on the number of infections reported.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level area COVID-19 quarantines for "critical zones" in LGUs.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 28,471 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the country's total case count to 3,270,758. Active cases increased to 284,458.
