The COVID-19 reproduction number in the National Capital Region (NCR) has decreased to 0.71, OCTA research fellow Dr. Guido David said on Tuesday night.

Reproduction rate refers to the number of people infected by one case. A reproduction number that is below 1 indicates that the transmission of the virus is slowing down.

In a tweet, David said the new COVID-19 infections in the NCR could go below 500 by February 14.

“2751 in the NCR, right in the middle of projected range of 2.5k to 3k. Actuals are still tracking below Jan 20 projections,” the OCTA research fellow said.

“At this rate, new cases in the NCR could go below 500 by Feb 14. Reproduction number now 0.71 in NCR,” he added.

David earlier said the reproduction number in NCR had gone down to 0.91, adding that it was a confirmation of the downward trend not just in new COVID-19 cases but in active cases as well.

He noted that the decrease of less than 1, recorded on January 21, 2022, was the first time since December 23, 2021.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday recorded 17,677 new COVID-19 cases increasing the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 3,459,646. —NB, GMA News
