People affected by granular lockdowns balloon to 38,598 from 2,557 —PNP

The number of people affected by granular lockdowns in the country has increased to 38,598 from 2,557, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

Based on the PNP data as of Tuesday, Cordillera region has placed 37,280 people under restriction.

A total of 790 areas nationwide are under granular lockdown, the PNP said, adding 336 of these areas are in Cordillera, 195 in Ilocos, 164 in Cagayan, 76 in the National Capital Region, and 19 in MIMAROPA.

To ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards, the PNP has deployed 316 personnel and 950 force multipliers to the affected areas

Local government units (LGUs) decide whether or not to impose or lift a granular lockdown on a house, compound, street, or building based on the number of infections reported.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level area COVID-19 quarantines for "critical zones" in LGUs.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 17,677 new COVID-19 cases pushing the country’s tally to 3,459,646. At least 247,451 are still active cases. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
