The Department of Education on Friday said vaccination from COVID-19 of all students is preferred for the expanded face-to-face classes.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said this is based on their agreement with the Department of Health (DOH)

“Kasama doon sa ating expanded phase ay ang agreement natin ng Department of Health ay ang vaccination of all our learners is preferred,” he said.

(Included in our expanded phase of the face-to-face classes was our agreement with the DOH that the vaccination of all learners is preferred)

Malaluan said the DOH as well as vaccine Carlito Galvez Jr. have already committed to prioritize the vaccination.

The pilot rollout of the vaccination of children aged five to 11 is set to start on February 4. According to Malaluan, there are around 14 million students in basic education who belong to this age group.

With the start of the vaccination of five to 11 years and the ongoing inoculation drive for 12 to 17 years old adolescents, Malaluan said these programs already covered students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 Level.

The conduct of the expanded face-to-face classes in the country will start by February, the DepEd said. — RSJ, GMA News
