By RICHA NORIEGA,GMA News

Former Defense secretary and current presidential aspirant Norberto Gonzales said he will offer scholarships for teachers and implement “standard education” for all if he is elected the country’s next president.

Gonzales vowed to implement a “standard education” among students, citing that there should be no difference between the treatment among “rich and poor.”

“Iba ang pagsasanay na ibinibigay, pag-aaral na binibigay natin sa mga anak ng mahihirap at anak ng mayayaman. Dapat binabago natin iyan. Ang istandard ng ating pag-aaral dapat isa lamang,” Gonzales said in a speech that was aired on the Campaign S.A.F.E. Comelec e-Rally Channel

on Tuesday.

(The training we give is different, the education we give to the children of the poor and the children of the rich. We must change that. We need a standard education.)

“I-scholar natin ang mga teachers, makikita natin ang teacher napakaimportante rin. Kung ako magiging pangulo lahat ng naglilingkod importante dapat ang gobyerno tinitignan mabuti wag natin gugutumin ang naglilingkod,” he added.

(“Let's offer scholarships to our teachers. Our teachers are also very important. If I am going to be president, everyone who serves is important. The government must look after them carefully. We must not starve those who serve.)

Meanwhile, Gonzales said “excellence” in education is very important for the Philippines to become a “progressive and rich” country.

“Huwag tayong papayag doon sa sinasabi nating, ‘okay na yan, tutal mahihirap lang naman tayo eh.’ Hindi tayo papayag diyan; lahat ng ginagawa natin dapat excellent,” Gonzales said.

(Let us not be satisfied with thinking, "that'll do, we're poor anyway." We will not allow that. Everything we do must be excellent.)

“Excellence is very important sa pag-aaral ng ating bansa. Kung gusto natin maging isang progresibong bansa, maging mayaman, excellence is very important in everything that we do,” he added.

(Excellence is very important to the education sector of our country. If we want to be a progressive country to be rich, excellence is very important in everything that we do.)

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday launched a Facebook page that will provide a platform for free livestreaming of national candidates' online political rallies amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the official campaign period for Eleksyon 2022 candidates running for national positions officially started on Tuesday, February 8, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Gonzales has yet to announce details about his proclamation rally.

Gonzales, who also served as National Security Adviser under the Arroyo administration, will run under the Partido Demokratiko Sosyalista ng Pilipinas (PDSP). — BM, GMA News
