By ANNA FELICIA BAJO,GMA News

Lawyer Vic Rodriguez, spokesman of presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., on Wednesday said the individual who allegedly made threats against the former senator has already surrendered to authorities.

The spokesman of the National Bureau of Investigation, Ferdinand Lavin, also confirmed this to GMA News Online: "Confirmed, nag-surrender sa NBI but (I am) still waiting for other details."

The Marcos camp will check the extent or the level of seriousness of the alleged plot to assassinate the presidential bet, according to Rodriguez.

"I was just on the phone this morning with Deputy Director De Guzman of the NBI. Sumuko na sa kanila 'yung taong nag-post ng death threat na 'yan kahapon. Ngayon, aasikasuhin din namin at nang makilala 'yung taong 'yan at gaano kalalim 'yung extent ng kanilang pananakot," Rodriguez said in an interview on ANC.

(The person who posted the death threat surrendered to the NBI yesterday. Today, we will attend to the matter and find out the identity of the person and how deep is the extent of the threat.)

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra had confirmed that the DOJ's Office of Cybercrime (OOC) received an online tip about an alleged kill plot against Marcos.

Marcos' camp had said that the OOC pushed through with the investigation after receiving a TikTok post that read, "WE ARE meeting everyday to plan for BBM’s assassination. Get ready."

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has already looked into the matter.

Rodriguez said the alleged plot was the reason why Marcos' camp is being extra cautious regarding the disclosure of details on the former senator's campaign trail.

"For the media, hindi rin totoo na gulatan or biglaan. May mga naka-detail sa aming mga reporters na halos lahat ng istasyon. Ngayon lang kami medyo nag-iingat because of the death threat on the life of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos," he explained.

(It's not true that details were given by surprise. There are reporters assigned to us from almost all stations. We are just cautious now because of the death threat on the life of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos.)

PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos on Tuesday said the PNP will give a standard security package for the candidates in Eleksyon 2022.

“We will have a standard security package for candidates [who will be] going on their campaign. Pantay-pantay po ang aming gagawin (We will do it equally)” he said.

Security teams will be provided to candidates to monitor the sites of their campaign activities as well as their movements to ensure the safety of everyone, Carlos added. —KG, GMA News
