An election campaign rally is allowed only a 70% venue capacity under a COVID-19 Alert Level 1, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said Tuesday.

“Under the Comelec Resolution 10732, under Alert Level 1, allowed po up to 70% of the operational capacity of the venue whether indoor or outdoor,” explained Malaya at a Laging Handa public briefing.

“So meron pa rin po limitasyon sa numero ng mga tao na pwedeng dumalo sa isang pagtitipon kahit na po yung lugar na yun ay under Alert Level 1 na,” he added.

(So there is still a limitation on the number of people who can attend a campaign rally even if the area is under an Alert Level 1)

Generally, under Alert Level 1, all establishments, persons, or activities, are allowed to operate, work, or be undertaken at full on-site or venue/seating capacity, provided it is consistent with minimum public health standards.

Malaya said that the DILG was still coordinating with the Comelec over how deputized agencies would enforce the restriction.

Starting March 1 until March 15, the National Capital Region and 37 other areas in the country were placed under an Alert Level 1, the lowest COVID-19 risk classification. — DVM, GMA News
