BACOOR, Cavite — Those guilty of soliciting votes, if there are any, should face charges, presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno said Friday.

Moreno had seemingly scoffed at his opponents, rhetorically asking why he would bother fooling himself into believing that 40,000 people attended his rally if these attendees were each paid P500 each.

“I hope kung talagang may ganon, makasuhan. Kasi bawal ‘yun sa batas. Solicitation of votes through money or in exchange of sa votes, you give something, bawal naman ‘yun,” he said in an ambush interview.

(I hope if there are really cases like that, they should be charged. Because that is against the law. Solicitation of votes through money or in exchange of votes, you give something, that’s not allowed.)

When asked if he knew certain politicians involved in such things, Moreno said he did not know. He later said that he only read about it in the news.

Recently, white envelopes containing P500 each were caught on camera being distributed

The Aksyon Demokratiko bet, meanwhile, assured that all people could expect from him are his hopes and aspirations.

“Basta ganito, sa akin, wala po kayo aasahan. Laway lang po ang meron ako. Laway lang. With all honesty, hopes, aspirations, and visions ‘yung mao-offer ko,” he said.

(You won’t expect anything from me. You can only trust my word. Only my word. With all honesty, I can only offer [my] hopes, aspirations, and visions.)

He also said that if there were people helping “on the side,” they should refrain from doing so and fooling themselves.

“Wag natin papuntahin ang tao for a fee. Gusto ko mas pumunta sila dahil baka interesado silang mapakinggan tayo. We should not be singing on the same choir,” Moreno said.

(Let’s not ask people to come here for a fee. I really want them to come here because they are interested in hearing what we have to say. We should not be singing in the same choir.)

“Kumbaga, ang gusto ko nga kaya makikita mo, bara-barangay, area-area para iba-ibang mukha, iba-ibang tao, so yung switch to Isko, ma-achieve natin.  Kasi alam niyo naman ayun yung kailangan mangyari ngayon,” he added.

(What I want is to go to each barangay, each area, different faces, and different people, so we can achieve the switch to Isko. Because you know that’s what needs to happen.) —NB, GMA News
