DOH logs 2,726 new COVID-19 cases from March 21–27, 2022

The Philippines recorded a total of 2,726 new COVID-19 cases from March 21 to March 27, lower by 24% than the previous weekly tally.

According to the Department of Health’s (DOH) weekly case bulletin, the daily case average for the week was 389.

There were also 387 new cases reported on Monday, the DOH said in a later update, bringing the nationwide tally to 3,677,376.

The country’s active case count decreased to 41,846 from the 42,835 recorded on Sunday, with 330 new COVID-19 infections.

From March 14 to March 20, the country logged 3,572 new COVID-19 infections, with a daily case average of 510.

Data also showed that 758 severe and critical cases are currently admitted.

Of 3,204 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 15.1% were occupied, while 16.7% of the 27,547 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Among the new infections this week, there were none tagged as severe or critical cases.

Meanwhile, more than 65.6 million individuals or 72.93% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The DOH said 11.8 million have received their booster shots.

At least 6.5 million senior citizens or 75.56% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

A total of 3,576,500 people have been counted as recoveries, while the death toll climbed to 59,030.

There were also 752 more verified deaths last week, according to DOH.

Of the 752 deaths, 107 occurred in March 2022 (14.2%), 105 in February 2022 (14.0%), 52 in January 2022 (6.9%), 19 in December 2021 (2.5%), 30 in November 2021 (4.0%), 82 in October 2021 (10.9%), 161 in September 2021 (21.4%), 83 in August 2021 (11.0%), 51 in July 2021 (6.8%), 17 in June 2021 (2.3%), 8 in May 2021 (1.1%), 8 in April 2021 (1.1%), 2 in March 2021 (0.3%), 1 in February 2021 (0.1%), 5 in January 2021 (0.7%), 8 in December 2020 (1.1%), 7 in November 2020 (0.9%), 4 in October 2020 (0.5%), 1 in September 2020 (0.1%), and 1 in August 2020 (0.1%) due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya.

The regions with the most cases in the past two weeks were the National Capital Region with 1,784 infections, Region 4-A with 724, and Region 6 with 573.

A total of 15,784 individuals were tested as of March 27, with 291 laboratories being able to submit data. — BM, GMA News
