Colmenares vows to continue fight vs. fake news, cronyism

Former Bayan Muna party-list Representative Neri Colmenares on Wednesday vowed to continue his fight against fake news and cronyism even if his chances of becoming a senator following the May elections remain uncertain.

"Habang mayroong fake news at samu’t saring kasinungalingan, kailangan lumaban. Habang mayroong nagtatangka ibalik sa kapangyarihan ang mga crony at iba pang nais kumubra sa kaban ng bayan, kailangan lumaban," Colmenares said in a statement.

"Lalaban at lalaban tayo hanggang sa huli."

As of 9:47 a.m. on Wednesday, Colmenares was at the 24th spot in the senatorial race with 6,028,200 votes based on partial and unofficial count. Only the top 12 senatorial candidates will be proclaimed winners in the elections.

Colmenares, who ran under the ticket of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis Pangilinan, claimed there are "doubts" surrounding the results of the elections, and urged his supporters to "act and fight."

"Our future is at stake here," he said.

A Martial Law survivor, Colmenares is a vocal critic of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., the emerging winner in the 2022 presidential race with over 15 million votes ahead of his staunch opponent, Robredo, based on partial and unofficial count as of posting time. —KBK, GMA News
