Isko Moreno says permits needed again for rallies: Para tuloy-tuloy sa pag-move on

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Wednesday announced that permits are needed again for public assemblies, including rallies, held in the city, saying this will help the public “move on” days after the 2022 elections.

In a televised special report, Moreno said he has signed a memorandum ordering the strict enforcement of the Public Assembly Act of 1985.

During the campaign period, Moreno had not required candidates to obtain permits to hold rallies in the city, saying everyone was welcome in Manila.

However, he said that the government must now “put things in the right order.”

Just yesterday, Moreno urged his supporters to refrain from joining any “disturbance” and urged them to instead help former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as he conceded defeat in the presidential race.

On the same day, groups belonging to the youth and labor sectors gathered in front of the Commission on Elections main office in Intramuros, Manila to protest the results of the recently concluded elections.

Gusto ko makapamuhay na tayo nang matiwasay or what we call peace of mind at 'yan ang lagi kong ibinibigay,” he added.

The Manila mayor also announced that he had ordered the Department of Public Services, the City Engineering Office, and the City Electrician Office to remove all campaign paraphernalia in public areas in the city.

“Bagama’t medyo nagdulot ito ng eyesore, for purposes of equality or pagkapantay-pantay at makaramdam sila na lagi silang welcome sa Maynila ay hinayaan natin,” he said.

Based on partial and unofficial results, Moreno ranked fourth among presidential candidates and garnered 1,898,732 votes as of posting time.
