Vice presidential frontrunner Davao Mayor Sara Duterte said she was confident in her staff that she slept soundly as the Filipinos cast their votes on election day, according to Ian Cruz’s report on “24-oras” on Wednesday.

“Sabi nga nila di ba walang matutulog dahil ang natutulog ay nadadaya. But I was so confident sa inyong lahat...kasi nandyan kayo, hinahanap ako kagabi, tulog na ako,” Duterte told her staff on Tuesday night at Lakas-CMD’s campaign headquarters in Mandaluyong City.

Dutere also thanked Lakas-CMD member Lyle Uy, whom she substituted in the last few days of filing of certificate of candidacy for her vice presidential bid.

“Nagpapasalamat ako kay ma’am Faye at kay sir Lyle for taking on the challenge of being candidate first for Lakas-CMD,” she said.

Speaking with reporters Wednesday night, frontrunner Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. announced Duterte has agreed

to head the Department of Education under his administration.

"I think I am already authorized to announce the first nominee that we will be giving to the Commission on Appointments when the time comes should I be proclaimed and that is that our incoming vice president has agreed to take the brief of Department of Education," Marcos told reporters.

Duterte acknowledged the role of her staff for the votes she gathered on election day.

“31 million votes ay ginawa ninyong lahat. Ako lang 'yung kandidato. Because of that, collective effort natin lahat at nakita natin na mayroong success ‘yung ating kandidatura and nagpapasalamat ako sa inyo,” she said.

Duterte is leading the vice presidential race, according to the partial and unofficial count of votes from 98.32% of the nationwide election returns as shown in the Comelec Transparency Server.

As of 7:17 p.m. Wednesday, the mayor had 31,547,470 votes.

She said that the fight is not yet over as she pledged to serve the country.

“We hope to collaborate and coordinate with your respective offices para sa tuloy-tuloy na pagtulong sa ating mga kababayan. Of course, we are doing this because we want to see a better country, a better future para sa mga anak natin,” Duterte said.—Mel Matthew Doctor/LDF, GMA News
