Marcos camp on Romualdez's speakership bid: We respect independence of Congress

The camp of presumptive president Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. would not comment on the support many lawmakers have given House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez's bid to become the next speaker of the House of Representatives.

Marcos' spokesman Atty. Vic Rodriguez said it was premature to comment on the matter. He added that it involved a co-equal branch of government.

"I think we’re still in the 18th Congress. For the incoming, we’re not yet in the position to be making any comment on that since it will be presumptuous to join the fray," Rodriguez said.

"It’s a legislative matter and we respect the independence of a co-equal branch of government," Marcos' spokesman, Atty. Vic Rodriguez, said at a presser on Tuesday," it added.

Romualdez, Marcos' cousin, has been endorsed to be the Speaker of the 19th Congress by prominent lawmakers and various political parties.

Among them was former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, chair emeritus of Lakas-CMD.

Romualdez ran unopposed as representative of the first district of Leyte in Eleksyon 2022.

He said he would do his best to push for the agenda of the incoming administration in the House, and to serve his colleagues and constituents well.

The lawmaker also promised to be a consensus-builder, and to be fair and to listen to the views of all. —NB, GMA News
