The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Wednesday that it has audited at least 88 ballot boxes for its random manual audit (RMA) of votes for Eleksyon 2022.

As of Tuesday, May 17, the Comelec and its partnered RMA teams have audited at least 88 ballot boxes and currently processing 16 others.

Likewise, the poll body said that  it has retrieved 737 out of 757 samples of clustered precincts.

The samples will be manually counted for the next 45 days to validate if the figures are reflected in the election returns.

RMA chairperson and Atty. Helen Graido earlier said the RMA was conducted to check the performance of vote counting machines (VCMs) and to examine the ballots to validate accuracy.

The Comelec has partnered with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and  Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (LENTE, PICPA, PSPHP, NAMFREL, and ISACA) to create and check the random selection software.

The manual audit is being live streamed through the Comelec’s Facebook page. —LBG, GMA News
