Joint committee adopts report, resolution for proclamation of winning president, VP

The Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, adopted on Wednesday afternoon the joint canvassing committee report, which will allow the proclamation of the duly elected winners for president and vice president in Eleksyon 2022.

Congress also adopted the accompanying resolution of both houses for the proclamation of the winning candidates. The Senate and the House of Representatives voted separately.

As stated in the rules approved by Congress, Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Speaker Lord Allan Velasco will then proclaim the duly-elected president and vice president.

Congress leaders had targeted Wednesday afternoon to proclaim presumptive president Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and running mate Sara Duterte as president and vice president, respectively.

Marcos garnered 31,629,783 votes in the official tally for the presidential race while Duterte obtained 32,208,417 votes. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
